Sandile's Story

From Surf School to National Swimming Champion

Sandile Pakamile joined Unstressed Surf School as a twelve-year-old growing up in Chintsa East. Like many young participants, he arrived curious about the ocean but with limited swimming experience.

Through regular Saturday sessions, Sandile’s love for physical activity and the water quickly became clear. With encouragement from the Unstressed team, he worked hard to improve his swimming and water safety skills.

Over time, that dedication paid off. Sandile qualified as a South African National Lifeguard and began teaching swimming to younger children in the community.

Today, Sandile works as a swimming instructor at one of Johannesburg’s leading swim schools and competes successfully in Masters-level South African swimming championships.

When he returns home during the holidays, he often visits Unstressed sessions, warming up the younger surfers and sharing his journey.

For many of them, Sandile represents something powerful: proof that someone from their own community can be successful.
